Dear Debaters,

Duels have historically been bloody battles to settle quarrels and uphold dignity. From Caesar to Hamilton, history has seen duels aplenty. With modernization, this practice was not altogether discarded, but has metamorphosed into the oral confrontations we see today– from video games to courtrooms, from news channels to presidential debates.

Debates are challenging for those who want to push beyond their mental limits and persevere through setbacks. Apart from fostering a sense of heightened reasoning, communication skills and cultivating confidence, debate is a wonderful medium to encourage open-mindedness and nudge students to research extensively from credible sources, which will assist them in other spheres of life as well. In today’s world of innumerable opinions clamoring to be heard, it is the voice spoken with unflinching clarity alone, which emerges above the throng of miscellany. The art of persuasion and backing one’s stance belongs to a gifted few. They are the leaders of tomorrow– unabashed, yet level-headed.

It is thus our pleasure to introduce the first ever edition of DUELLUM DIALOGUS– the debate competition of The Deens Academy. Here, debaters eager to shine will engage in duels with their peers in an intense, albeit refined reminiscence of the duels of yore. Debate is not, however, merely about the glory. It is an incredible opportunity for personal growth by testing time management, team work and learning from a gathering of Bangalore’s best. Here’s to the duel of our time on 30th -31st August. May the best debate dueller prevail.

This August, The Deens Academy opens doors to confident, passionate and eristic personalities striving to contest, deliberate and oppose as we roll out our first ever interschool debate competition DUELLUM DIALOGUS.
​
This war of words will take place on 30th of August with one championing it, beating the rest on the 31st of August.
​
Whether you are a seasoned debater or one that wishes to engage in this wonderful fervour for argument, we hope to see every participant embrace the challenges, seize this wonderful opportunity and be part of what is undoubtedly going to be a duel to remember.
